What it's about

Tony Webster, a retired man in his sixties, has a quiet, settled life. Then a lawyer's letter informs him that the mother of an old girlfriend has left him a small sum of money and the diary of his brilliant school friend Adrian, who killed himself as a young man. Tony's attempts to get the diary force him to revisit what he thought he remembered.

Why it's worth reading

Critics and Bestseller are two ways to earn a place: a book's stronger one counts more. Buzz rewards recent bestseller weeks and prizes, so older books start at zero. The parts combine into the Must-Read Score, shown on a scale where the best book we found scores 99 and the last book to make the ranking scores 50.
